Area
Information
When you think of the Lakes Area, you naturally think of water. But there
is more to recreation in the Lakes Area than just lake-related sports.
Water Recreation
The Lakes Area is a natural mecca for water recreation including boating,
swimming, fishing, water skiing and sailing. As the pace of society gets
faster and faster, the soothing qualities of water provide an antidote
to the stresses of life.
Golf
Six courses are located within a four mile radius of Arrowood Resort
in Okoboji, insuring quick and easy access to a round of golf. People
relocating from metro areas are amazed at how quickly they can get from
the workplace to their favorite recreational spot.
Amusement Park
One of the first pictures that come to mind when you mention Okoboji
is Arnold's Park Amusement Park. Situated on the shores of West Lake
Okoboji, it is the oldest amusement park west of the Mississippi.
Recreational Trails
The Dickinson County Trails System consists of 16 miles of hard surfaced
trails running through the heart of the Lakes Area. It provides a place
to walk, run, bicycle, rollerblade and more.
Okoboji Summer Theatre
One of the most popular attractions in the Lakes Area. Students from
Stephens College, one of the leading undergraduate theatre programs in
the nation, star in nine plays and musicals each summer.
Lakes Art Center
Founded in 1965 by area artists who yearned for a place to paint and
exchange ideals, the Lakes Are Center has grown from a small country
barn to a contemporary year round facility.
Movie Theatres
For those who can't resist actors on the big screen,
the Lakes Area has just the place. Great Lakes Cinema 7
in Okoboji has seven screens (two of them offer stadium
seating).
